Centre holds coal block auction in Hyderabad, Sravanapalli block in Telangana up for auction

Hyderabad: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy kicked off the tenth round of commercial coal block auction at the West-Inn Hotel in Hyderabad on Friday, Tv9 telugu reported.

60 blocks of coal mines across the country have been put up for auction including Sravanapalli coal block in Telangana.

This is the first round of major activity of the Coal Ministry after Kishan Reddy took charge as minister.

Sravanapalli Coal Block:

The Sravanapalli coal block in Godavari valley coalfield of Mancherial district, is spread over 18.63 sq km, with 10.18 sq km available for auction. The coal block has an estimated 119.9 million tonnes of coal reserves at a depth of 420.5 metres.

Deputy CM  Bhatti Vikramarka at the event:

Notably, Telangana Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka participated in the event despite Congress opposition to the auction of Telangana coal blocks.

The state government has asked the Centre to hand over Sravanapalli coal blocks directly to Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) without an auction.

Speaking to Tv9 Telugu, Bhatti Vikramarka said, “Union Minister Kishan Reddy is well aware of the situation in Telangana. Singareni is the pride of Telangana and mine for jobs and the Centre needs to allocate new mines to it.

It is sad that the Centre has decided to auction four blocks of coal mines in Telangana. Due to the mistakes of the previous government, Singareni did not participate in the auction. Two blocks went to a private company recently. This is incorrect. It is to destroy a government organization like Singareni.”

After the auction, Minister Kishan Reddy said, “The Centre has given as much priority to Singareni as Coal India Limited. It has some problems but we will overcome them. I urge political parties to not politicise the issue. The leaders of Congress and BRS are making unconnected comments.”

Meanwhile, Telangana Boggu Ghani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS), affiliated with the BRS, demanded direct allocation without an auction as financial burden from royalty payments may range from 4 percent to 30 percent.
