New Delhi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Monday reiterated that Pakistan will host the Champions Trophy 2025 and that the board will not accept a hybrid model for the premier tournament. Pakistan are the official hosts of the tournament, however, the competition has been left in limbo after BCCI refused to send the Indian team to Pakistan.
BCCI has already communicated to the ICC that it won’t send the Indian team to Pakistan citing security reasons. BCCI’s refusal to send the Indian team across the border has promoted discussions about conducting the Champions Trophy in a hybrid model with some reports also claiming that the entire tournament can be shifted out of Pakistan if the PCB doesn’t relent.
However, Naqvi on Monday said that the PCB will not accept a hybrid model for the Champions Trophy and that Pakistan’s pride and respect are the board’s priority. Naqvi also urged the BCCI to approach PCB for discussions regarding their concerns about sending the Indian team to Pakistan for the tournament.
“Pakistan’s pride and respect is our priority. Champions Trophy will take place in our country only, we will not accept hybrid Model. If India has any concerns, they can come to us and we will sort them out,” Naqvi said while addressing the media outside the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday.
“We stand firm on our stance that we will not go for a hybrid model. We’re waiting for the ICC to announce the schedule as soon as possible,” added the PCB chief.
