Chennai rains: Heavy downpour at several places for the second consecutive day | Videos |

Chennai: Heavy rain lashed several parts of Tamil Nadu’s capital Chennai on Thursday. The city and the suburbs almost achieved the monthly average rainfall of 6cm as short and intense rain spells in many parts of the city for the second consecutive day on Thursday, June 6, caused stagnation and delayed flights. Light to moderate rain in Chennai for two more days said the Chennai Regional Meteorological centre (RMC).

“An atmospheric mantle circulation prevails over the southern parts of India. Due to this, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning and gusty winds (30 kmph to 40 kmph) may occur at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, the weather agency predicted.

The MeT department forecasted that Heavy rain is likely at one or two places in hilly areas of Coimbatore, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul districts, Nilgiris, Erode, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur and Trichy.

As far as Chennai is concerned, the sky will be partly cloudy. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely to occur in a few parts of the city. The weather forecast predicted a maximum temperature of 36-37° Celsius and a minimum temperature of 26-27° Celsius.

According to the Met Office, there is a possibility of moderate rain in 4 districts in Tamil Nadu in the next 3 hours. Accordingly, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram and Kanyakumari districts are likely to receive rain in the next 3 hours (i.e. till 10 am).

“Persisting East West Shear Zone to trigger thunderstorms over many parts of Peninsular India. Places in NW Interior Tamil Nadu around Vellore may see intense thunderstorms. Chennai may see moderate rains during the evening hours at many places,” private weather blogger K Srikanth of Chennai Rains said.

 

 Chennai Rains: It’s been moderately raining all over Chennai and it’s suburbs for the past 2 days and it’s cloudy today as well.
