New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a poor start in the Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after being put into bat first at Chepauk on Friday as they succumbed to their lowest-ever total in the history of the league. A change of fortunes was expected for the Super Kings with Dhoni being at the helm for the remainder of the season starting with the match but what happened was otherwise.

The CSK side, which scored the lowest total of IPL 2025 as well, has suffered four losses in five matches thus far in the season their first wicket in the fourth over on a score of 16. Opener Devon Conway, who looked appealing with couple of boundaries under his belt, failed to capitalise on his initial hits going back to the pavilion on just 12 runs. Moeen Ali gave the Knight Riders their first wicket with a sensational leg before wicket.

Batters fails at home

Lethal batter Rachin Ravindra soon followed the footsteps of his opening partner exactly after an over after scoring just 4 runs. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals with Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Deepak Hooda falling in quick succession. From 16/0, CSK were reduce to 72/7 in the 15th over of the first innings.

Skipper Dhoni was expected to weave some magic but could not contribute for his side and suffered a cheap dismissal after scoring just a single run in 4 balls. The hosts folded for a score of 103/9  in the stipulated 20 overs, giving KKR an easy target of 104 runs to chase. Shankar scored 29 runs while Shivam Dube contributed with unbeaten 31 runs to help the side cross the 100-run mark.
