New Delhi: Francis Ngannou is set to make his long-awaited return to MMA after 2 years break from the octagon. He will be fighting against Renan Ferriera for the Heavyweight title on October 19. Ngannou last fought in MMA way back in January 2022, when he was in the UFC organisation against Cyril Gane for the UFC Heavyweight Championship. He dominated the fight and retained his title. Ngannou was dominating the UFC Heavyweight division and was undefeated for four straight years. But his terms with UFC were not so great so he parted ways with the company and joined the Professional Fighters League (PFL).
Ngannou signed the contract with PFL on special terms as he can fight in PFL as well as in Boxing. Ngannou then went to fight Tyson Fury in October 2023 in a boxing match. He was debuting in Boxing but fought very well in the bout, Fury won the fight by split decisions but Ngannou was credited more for his heroics in the debut fight. Then he went to fight Anthony Joshua in March 2024 but got brutally KO in the second round.
Now that Ngannou returning to MMA where he started his career, he will fight against PFL Heavyweight Champion Ferreira who is currently on a four-fight win streak. Ferreira is the current tallest Heavyweight fighter in PFL and he has 12 stoppages out of 13 wins in his career. It will be a ‘Battle of Giants’ for the PFL Heavyweight Championship.
PFL Super Fight Card
Ngannou vs Ferriera will be headlining the PFL Super Fight on October 19 meanwhile, In the co-main event Chris Cyborg is returning to action against PFL featherweight Champion Larissa Pacheco who is currently on a 10-fight unbeaten run. Cyborg is also coming from multiple boxing matches same as Ngannou, but Cyborg dominated her boxing matches and remains undefeated in her boxing matches. Cyborg has been undefeated since 2018 and will return to fight for the Featherweight title.
