Hyderabad District Education Officer (DEO) R Rohini issued orders to private schools prohibiting them from selling uniforms, shoes, belts on school premises, including in State, ICSE, CBSE schools.
As per the guidelines specified in the order, the schools cannot make any profit from the sale of books, notebooks and stationary items in school premises, and must abide by the recent court order.
“As per court orders, the sale of books, note books, stationery at the school counter, if any, should be on a non-commercial, no-profit-no-loss basis,” the order read.
This move aims to regulate school commerce and to ensure parents are not overcharged for school supplies.
Compliance:
Deputy Educational Officers and Deputy School Inspectors have been asked to form mandal-level committees and monitor private sector schools frequently to ensure that school management does not profiteer from the sale of uniforms, belts and shoes.
These committees have been asked to report violations to the DEO if compliance is not observed.
The directive has been marked as ‘most urgent’ and instructed all Deputy Educational Officers and Deputy Inspectors of Schools to implement the orders immediately and submit compliance reports.
The move also aims to implement fair practices in the sale of school items and to lessen financial burden on many families.
