Kerala: Netizens support government staff slapped with show-cause notice for making reels in office

Thiruvalla : The video reel that has drawn the ire of the higher authorities in the revenue department in Kerala wherein eight employees were seen enacting for a Malayalam song has ended up winning support from various corners including politicians, bureaucrats who lauded the effort following which it was decided that non action will be taken against the employees.

In the initial assessment it was found that the employees had come to work on a holiday following the instruction of the district collector as part of formulating measures to tackle heavy rain.

District collectors and bureaucrats including ‘Collector bro’, Prashant, the former district collector of Kozhikode criticised the local body for threatening disciplinary action against the employees who had a little fun at the office.

Social media, mainly Facebook saw support pouring in from various quarters lauding the young officials who were seen having a bit of fun on a Sunday, a holiday when they were asked to perform duty.

Few comments below :

VK Prashanth, the CPI(M) MLA and the former mayor of Thiruvananthapuram wrote – ‘Congratulations dear friends’

# Muhammed Mamu – “We need more such officials in government offices. Need some one who at least smile at people when they enter the office”.

#Bin Mathew – “Little little happiness”.

#Subhadra Amma – “Superb – Lets hope the officials in the offices behave down to earth and simple. Nothing wrong in it, they haven’t deviated from their official duties”.

#Sarath – “The kind of corruption and nepotism these officials are into, this tiny video is not to be made a major issue”.

After the reel went viral, the Local Self-Government Minister M B Rajesh said that no action will be taken against the eight employees who filmed a viral Instagram reel inside the Thiruvalla Municipality office on Sunday.

The employees were present in the office on a holiday at the district collector’s instructions as part of the monsoon preparedness, and the reel was filmed without disrupting office operations. The officials concerned have been asked not to impose any punitive measures against the employees for shooting the reel on Sunday, a holiday in the Tiruvalla municipal corporation. The dedication of the employees of the local self-government bodies, who are willing to work even on Sundays during emergencies, is commendable,” read his Facebook comment translated from Malayalam.

On Wednesday, a show-cause notice had been issued to the group of staff, consisting of one office attendant and seven clerks from the revenue department. The notice pointed out that the reel, filmed during working hours, had been shared on social media, violating service rules and negatively impacting the public perception of government officials
