Madanapalle sub-collector office fire: Police intensifies investigation, 2 ex-YCP MLAs questioned

Police intensified investigation over the weekend into the fire incident at Madanapalle’s Sub-collector’s office on July 21, in which vital land records were destroyed.

Police went to the residence of ex-YSRCP MLA Nawaz Basha on Sunday evening to search his premises. Basha was reportedly in Bangalore when the raids on his residence happened and when contacted by phone, he assured police that he would return to attend questioning. Basha was questioned on the phone for two hours.

In his absence, his followers and YSRCP cadre gathered at his residence and were later dismissed by police.

Ex-MLA Peddireddy Ramachandrareddy and PA raided:

In another development related to the same case, AP police and CID officials questioned former MLA Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and conducted searches at the residence of his PA Sasikanth in Ayyappa Society locality in Hyderabad.

The searches began on Saturday and went on till Sunday afternoon, when police seized several documents and shifted the to Madanapalle for probe. Shashikant reportedly left his residence minutes before police officials reached. Later, he was served notices and summoned for questioning.

Many other individuals linked to Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy such as his son PV Midhun Reddy, YCP leader Bob John, Senior journalist B Aakulappa were also questioned.

Massive fire erupted at the Revenue Division Office in Madanapalle, Annamayya district on July 21, destroying many important land documents. The government ordered a probe and suspected sabotage by YSRCP. The fire also caused extensive damage to computers, furniture, file racks along with documents.

The incident occurred just before the new sub-collector, Megha Swaroop was set to take charge on July 22. The timing of the fire raised suspicions, especially in the light of irregularities that came to light during YSRCP tenure.
