New Delhi: In a surprising turn of events, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh lavished praise on former India captain MS Dhoni. Yograj, who has often attacked Dhoni in the past and has blamed him for ‘destroying’ Yuvraj’s career, called the former India skipper a ‘fearless’ man and a motivated captain.
Yograj spoke about Dhoni during an interaction on “Unfiltered by Samdish” on YouTube. He praised the legendary India wicket-keeper batter for being fearless during his reign as captain of the Indian team and also recalled an incident when Dhoni’s attitude and mindset left him impressed. Dhoni is one of India’s most successful captains of all time and remains the only skipper to have won all three major ICC limited-overs trophies.
He led India to glory in the 2007 T20 World Cup which was his first major assignment as captain before inspiring India to a memorable triumph in the ODI World Cup in 2011. India won the Champions Trophy title under Dhoni in 2013, making him the first captain to win all three major limited-overs trophies.
“I find Dhoni as a very motivated captain, who can tell people what to do,” Yograj said on Unfiltered by Samdish.
“The best thing about Dhoni was that he could read the wicket can tell bowlers where to bowl. What I liked the most about him was that he was a fearless man.
If you remember in Australia, he was hit on the grill my Mitchell Johnson and he didn’t moved a bit, he stood there and next ball he pulled him for a six. Aise log kaafi kam hote hai (There are very few people like him),” he added.
Yuvraj played an instrumental role in helping India win the T20 World Cup 2007 and the 2011 ODI World Cup trophies under Dhoni’s captaincy. The duo were vital cogs in India’s middle order in white-ball cricket for several years and forged numerous match-winning partnerships together for the Men in Blue, rescuing them under pressure to record some memorable victories.
