Grand celebration to mark a landmark achievement

India broke the ICC Trophy jinx after defeating South Africa in a nail-biting final at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. The seven-run win ended India’s 11-year trophy and a 13-year World Cup drought. After leading India to a landmark win, Rohit, superstar batter Virat Kohli and ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, announced their retirements from T20I cricket.

The Indian players and support staff received a grand reception on their arrival back home. After meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, the Indian cricket team landed in Mumbai amidst massive fanfare.

The open-top bus carrying the players paraded through Mumbai on their way to the Wankhede Stadium. Rohit and his teammates proudly waved the national flag from the bus during the celebrations. Rohit had also planted the Indian flag at the stadium in Barbados, which was the venue of India’s victory over the Proteas.

Under Rohit’s leadership, India remained unbeaten in the T20 World Cup, defeating the likes of Pakistan, Australia and England en route to their final, where they edged past a resilient South African side.

Virat Kohli was named Player of the Match for his gritty half-century while Jasprit Bumrah was announced as the Player of the Series for picking 15 wickets in eight matches.
