Shaheen Afridi returns as Pakistan announce Playing XI for 1st Test against England

New Delhi: Pakistan announced the playing XI for the first Test match against England on Sunday. The three match series starts with the first Test in Multan on Monday. Star pacer Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah, another premier pacer, are back in the XI after missing out the second Test match against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Aamir Jamal has also been named in the squad after recovering from his back injury.

Despite a below-par performance in the Test series against Bangladesh, Pakistan have decided to retain most of the batters for the upcoming series against the English side. Youngster Saim Ayub will open for the side along Abdullah Shafique while captain Shan Masood will continue to bat number 3. The skipper will be followed by experienced trio of Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan while Salman Ali Agha and Aamer Jamal will provide balance with their all-round skills.

Meanwhile, Pakistan would be eager to show up in the Test series against the English side after a disappointing series against Bangladesh at home, where they had to face a humiliating defeat. Under skipper Shan Masood and the experienced trio of Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi, this is the best chance for the Greens to prove their mettle in the longest format of the game.

The visitors, England, announced their playing XI on Saturday and will be without their regular skipper Ben Stokes who is still recovering from a hamstring injury. Brydon Carse will make his Test debut for England.
