Villupuram: The Villupuram consumer court has fined a popular restaurant of Rs 35,250 for not providing pickles for parcel meals. The court also ordered that if the money is not paid within 45 days, a penalty amount along with 9 percent interest per month shall be paid.
The restaurant manager promised 11 items in the meal parcel
According to the case, in 2022, Arogyasamy, a resident of the Valuthareddy area, bought 25 parcels of meals for Rs 2,000 at a restaurant near Villupuram New Bus Stand. Arogsamy said that he inquired about the price of a Parcel meal at a restaurant called Palamurugan opposite the Villupuram bus station. The restaurant management replied that the cost of a meal is Rs.80, which includes rice, sambar, curry paste, rasam, buttermilk, waffles, banana leaves, and a pickle.
The restaurant didn’t respond properly to the consumer
However, when he was eating, the pickle was missing from the parcel. Disappointed by the absence of pickles in the parcel meal, which claimed to have 11 types of food items, Arogyaswamy appealed to the concerned hotel management.
However, it is said that the hotel management did not respond to him properly. Subsequently, Arogyasamy filed a case in the Villupuram District Consumer Court. The court heard this plea and ordered the concerned restaurant to pay a fine of Rs 35,000 as fine and 25 rupees for the pickle, saying that it caused the petitioner mental distress by not providing pickles for the meal.
