Tamil Nadu: Days after Kallakurichi hooch tragedy, 1 more person died, 3 hospitalised in Villupuram

Villupuram: Just 10 days after the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy where at least 65 people died after consuming illicit liquor l mixed with methanol in Karunapuram, a person died after consuming illicit liquor sold in D. Kumaramangalam in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district and this shows that the DMK- led Tamil Nadu government has not taken any steps to control illicit liquor, Pattali Makkal Katchi leader Anbumani Ramadoss said. Reports says Three men hospitalized after consuming hooch in Villupuram with one in a coma.

“Tamil Nadu government and police said that following the Kallakurichi hooch deaths, intensive raids were conducted across Tamil Nadu to control the illicit liquor business. However, the extent to which adulterated liquor is rampant in Tamil Nadu can be understood from the fact that adulterated alcohol is being sold very close to Kallakurichi. T Kumaramangalam’s Kallacharaya death shows that the Tamil Nadu government and the police are in the mindset that no matter how many people die from drinking illegal liquor in Tamil Nadu, they will not control the sale of illegal liquor. The sale of bootleg liquor in T Kumaramangalam proves the ruling party’s support for the bootlegging business,” Anbumani said in a statement.

The PMK leader highlighted that “Since the death of an old man after drinking illicit Villupuram district will cause a lot of turmoil in Tamil Nadu, efforts are being made to cover it up. The police have given false information that the elderly Jayaraman died due to the consumption of liquor bought by Murugan from Puducherry.”

Anbumani remarked “The son-in-law of the deceased Jayaraman has denied this and alleged that bootleg liquor is being sold freely in their area. This should be investigated. The DMK government, which cannot control bootleg liquor, should step down.”

On the 19th June, 65 people died after drinking toxic liquor mixed with methanol in Karunapuram, Kallakurichi town of Tamil Nadu. Just 10 days after the tragedy, a person died after allegedly consuming illicit liquor sold in D. Kumaramangalam village in Villupuram district in the state has raised serious concerns.  Tamil Nadu States News India: Top News India, States News, States News Headlines, Online State News India, State Politics news
