Hyderabad: Telangana Police on Sunday arrested Medak BJP President Gaddam Srinivas, BJP Medak town president M Nayam Prasad, BJYM President, seven others for communal violence in Medak town on Saturday night.
The Minhaj Ul Uloom Madarsa in Medak bought cattle for the purpose of sacrifice for Bakrid and shortly after, right wing Hindutva organisations created ruckus outside the Madarsa after the animals were brought in.
Hindutva goons later returned and attacked the Madarsa, resulting in injuries. They had to be moved to the local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The Hindutva mob later descended on the hospital where the victims were admitted and attacked the hospital, threw stones at the building.
After the attack, the police increased patrolling in Medak town to prevent the unrest from spreading further and imposed Section 144, which prohibits more than four people from gathering at one place.
Dr Naveen of Orthopaedic Hospital Medak spoke to the media after the attack and said that he was treating a patient named Arif Samdani on humanitarian grounds when a mob of BJP , BJYM people launched an attack on the hospital and damaged his car. “We don’t know who is Muslim, who is Hindu. We are here to serve the people. This behavior from the mob is unacceptable.”
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Telangana Police IG AV Ranganath said, “Cow vigilantes with previous criminal backgrounds took law into their own hands, leading to the problem in Medak.”
Meanwhile, Telangana Police also took BJP MLA T Raja Singh into preventive custody as he was planning to visit Medak amid the rising communal tension.
This comes amid the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections and a reduced majority for the BJP at the Centre. The NDA government has been formed with the help of coalition partners TDP and JDU.
Right wing Hindutva organisations created ruckus outside a Madarsa in Medak town for alleged illegal transport of cows. Gaddam Srinivas was seen in an orange shirt with a stick in his hand accompanying other BJP workers, as the mob vandalised Muslim owned properties.
