Hyderabad: Telangana was once again on the boil as it experienced the hottest day of the year on Thursday. Bheemaram village in Mancherial district recorded 47.2°C, leaving behind the record set in first week of May.
Uppal in Hyderabad city also faced severe heat as mercury soared to 43.3°C. Similar temperature was recorded in areas such as Malakpet, Azampura, Mallapur.
Similarly, many districts in the state exceeded 45°C with Bhadradri Kothagudem registering 47.1°C followed by Peddapalli sweltering at 46.7°C.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rain is likely in some places from May 31. Thunderstorms with rain, lightning, gusty winds of 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur in Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanmakonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajgiri, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal districts in June first week.
Southwest monsoon:
However, southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in the state in June second week, bringing much needed respite from the relentless heat. The monsoon onset will be first seen in Kerala by May 31.
Last year, monsoon arrived in Telangana between June 13-17. The anticipation of thunderstorms and rain after May 31 is a hope for parched areas but North Telangana is expected to see high temperatures.
