New Delhi: Kane Williamson pulled off a stunning one-handed diving catch to send Ravindra Jadeja packing during the final Group A clash between India and New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on Sunday, March 02. Both India and New Zealand headed into the clash unbeaten having won their first two matches in a row to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.

New Zealand produced an exceptional bowling performance and a brilliant fielding display to restrict India to 249/9 in 50 overs after inviting the Men in Blue to bat first in the game. Matt Henry was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand with his five-wicket haul but the Kiwi fielders stole the show with some stunning catches during India’s innings.

After Glenn Phillips took a screamer to dismiss Virat Kohli cheaply on 11 off 14 balls, Williamson took a stunner to get rid of Jadeja. The dismissal took place in the 46th over of India’s innings when Jadeja was batting on 16. The left-hander cut a back of length delivery from Henry and the ball flew towards back point.

Williamson, who was stationed there, dived to his left to grab a flying catch with his less dominant left hand. It was an exceptional catch from the former New Zealand captain, who showcased amazing reflexes and skills to grab the ball out of thin air. Thanks to his stunning catch, Jadejs was sent packing on 16 off 20 balls as India lost their 7th wicket on 223.

New Zealand restrict India to 249/9

A disciplined bowling effort combined with an exceptional fielding display helped New Zealand restrict India to 249 runs after inviting them to bat first in the game. Henry struck early to get rid of opener Shubman Gill cheaply on 2 and draw the first blood for New Zealand before Kyle Jamieson dismissed Rohit Sharma on 15 off 17 balls.

Kohli too failed to fire as he was removed on 11 after Phillips took a blinder. Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel combined to steady the ship for India with an important stand of 98 runs for the 4th wicket. Iyer scored a brilliant 79 off 98 balls under pressure while Axar played a valuable knock of 42 runs. Hardik Pandya’s run-a-ball 45 helped India finish with 249 runs on the board.

Though India and New Zealand have already qualified for the semi-finals, the game will decide the top two spots in Group A. While the winner of the match will face Australia in the semi-finals, the loser will lock horns against South Africa.
