New Delhi: South Africa wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne pulled off a stunning diving catch to help left-arm pacer Marco Jansen get Australia batter Travis Head right before lunch in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final between the two sides at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on Wednesday. Verreynne dived full stretch to his right to complete an exceptional grab after Head got a slight tickle on a delivery angling outside leg.
The dismissal took place on the second ball of the 24th over when Head was facing Jansen. The Proteas left-arm quick bowled a fullish delivery down the leg side. Head tried to flick it away, but could only manage a slight touch as the ball flew after kissing his bat. Verreynne flew to his right to complete a one-handed stunner, sending Head packing cheaply on just 11 off 13 balls.
It was an amazing catch from the South African wicket-keeper, who displayed great reflexes and agility to help South Africa bag a crucial breakthrough before Lunch. Head’s wicket reduced defending champions to 67/4 in their first innings at Lunch on Day 1 of the final.
