New Delhi: The victorious Indian cricket team is likely to be felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi once they come back from Barbados with the T20 World Cup 2024 title. On Saturday, Team India created history after they beat South Africa in a nail-biting summit clash by 7 runs to lift the T20 World Cup trophy for a second time.
With the historic win, India ended the ICC title drought which had been there from the last 11 years when they clinched the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Since then, India suffered at the ultimate or penultimate stage of all the big-ticket events, failing to bring home a big title. After a long-pending jinx was finally ended and that too in a commendable manner, the Indian brigade got stuck in Barbados because of a hurricane.
The return, which would likely have taken a day or so, was delayed and the entire contingent along with their families and other BCCI officials has been stranded in West Indies. Finally after a couple of days delay, India are hopefully returning to India on Tuesday night in a charter flight arranged by the BCCI.
When will Narendra Modi felicitate Team India?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will likely facilitate Team India on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning in Delhi, depending on their time of arrival. As per media reports, further details on the schedule of the event are still awaited and the official details like the day and exact time will be out soon.
After the Men in Blue clinched the historic Cup, PM Modi was among the first ones to congratulate the side for their massive success. Not only through a message on social media site X followed by a video message, Modi also dialed Team India the following day and congratulated them for the achievement. Modi also wrote special messages for the departing head coach Rahul Dravid, skipper Rohit Sharma, star batter Virat Kohli and flamboyant all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
