Texas: In another tragic incident a 32-year-old Indian student, Dasari Gopikrishna was shot dead during a mass- robbery shooting in a supermarket in Arkansas. The incident occurred on Friday, June 21 when an unidentified man attempted robbery and then opened fire in a grocery store, AP reported.
In this mass shooting, 14 people including 11 civilians and two law enforcement officials were shot. Furthermore, the suspect also shot himself.
In addition to Gopikrishna, the other victims who lost their lives were Shirley Taylor, 62, Roy Sturgis, 50, Ellen Shrum, 81, and Callie Weems, 23.
Following this incident, the Indian Embassy in Houston and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed their condolences to the family of the victim.
Who was Dasari Gopikrishna?
Dasari hailed from Andhra Pradesh‘s Bapatla district and came to the US eight months ago in the hope of a better livelihood.
The CCTV footage accessed by the authorities showed Gopi standing at the billing counter of the gas station where he used to work when a man opened fire at him and fell on the floor. Amid the incident, he was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
However, he later succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, June 23.
The 32-year-old man was survived by his son and wife.

Meanwhile, Andhra CM Naidu on his social media posted, “Deeply saddened to learn that a young Dasari Gopikrishna from Bapatla has succumbed to injuries sustained in a shooting incident in Texas, USA. I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and assure them that the GoAP will extend every possible support to help bring him home. We firmly stand by the family and pray for them to find strength through this difficult time.”
Notably, there has been a surge in gun-related violence in the US. On Saturday, June 22, one was killed while seven others were injured in a shooting incident outside a lounge club in Louisville, Kentucky.
