New Delhi: In-form batter Karun Nair was ignored as India announced their 15-man squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 on Saturday, January 18. Nair has been in stunning form for Vidarbha in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy and has set the tournament ablaze with his impressive performances.

Nair is currently the leading run-getter in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with an astounding 752 runs in just 8 matches at a phenomenal average of 752 as he is yet to be dismissed in the tournament so far. The 33-year-old has slammed as many as five centuries for Vidarbha in the tournament so far and has been piling on runs one game after another.

Nair was expected to be rewarded for his brilliant run in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with what could have been a dream India recall after 8 years. However, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee felt there was no place for the experienced batter in the 15-man squad despite his current form. Agarkar lauded Nair for his phenomenal numbers but insisted all the batters picked in the squad deserve a spot.

“Averaging 750+ is simply insane, Performances like his don’t happen often. However, with only 15 spots available, we can’t fit everyone,” Agarkar said about Nair at the press conference after announcing India’s 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy 2025.

“It was difficult to find a place and all those who have been picked have averaged in mid-40s,” added the Indian chief selector.

Karun Nair was snubbed from India’s squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 despite being in sensational form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy where he has amassed 752 runs at a stunning average of 752 as he is yet to be dismissed in the tournament.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
