New Delhi: Pakistan’s ‘Golden boy’ Arshad Nadeem is set to receive a special gift as he arrived to his hometown Mian Channu on Sunday (August 11). Muhammad Nawaz, the father-in-law of the Paris Olympics gold medallist, has decided to gift a buffalo for his victory.
According to a report by news agency PTI, Muhammad Nawaz told the local media that gifting a buffalo is considered ‘very valuable’ as well as ‘honourable in their village. It is a traditional manner to felicitate some in the rural culture.
“Nadeem also takes great pride in his roots and despite the success, his home still remains his village and he still lives with his parents and brothers,” said Nawaz, as reported by PTI.
Hailing Nadeem married Ayesha, the youngest daughter of Nawaz, and the couple has two children, a son and a daughter.
“When we decided to marry our daughter to Nadeem six years back, at that time he used to do small jobs and run errands but was extremely passionate about his sport and constantly practised throwing the javelin at home and in the fields,” said Nawaz.
The 27-year-old Nadeem ended his country’s medal drought at the Olympics, bringing the first medal in 32 years. He won the gold medal in men’s javelin throw with a humungous throw of 92.97m shattering the Olympic record of 16 years. He defeated his rival Neeraj Chopra, reigning Olympic champion at Tokyo, for the first time in their 10 meetings. Chopra settled for a silver with his seasoned best throw of 89.45m.
