Jasprit Bumrah leaves field, heads to hospital amid injury scare in 5th Test – WATCH

New Delhi: In worrying signs for the Indian team, captain Jasprit Bumrah had to leave the field in the middle of play during the second session on Day 2 of the 5th Test against Australia in Sydney on Saturday. Bumrah was later taken to the hospital for what appeared to be precautionary scans after suffering an injury scare while bowling.

Bumrah was spotted leaving the field after bowling just one over at the start of the second session on Day 2 and didn’t return. The star Indian pacer was later spotted in his training jersey while leaving for the hospital with the Indian team’s support staff for scans. The nature of Bumrah’s injury and the extent of it is not known yet.

However, the visuals of the Indian pacer leaving the ground for the hospital have left the fans worried. Bumrah has arguably been the best bowler for India in the series so far and his presence on the field will be vital if India are to fancy their chances of pulling off a victory in the mus-win fifth Test against Australia in Sydney.

Bumrah continued his impressive run with the ball for India on Day 2 of the Sydney Test after drawing the first blood for the visitors by dismissing Usman Khawaja cheaply at the stroke of stumps on Day 1 on Friday. Bumrah got rid of Marnus Labuschagne cheaply on just 2 early in the morning session to get the first breakthrough for the visitors on Day 2.

Thanks to his brilliant start, Indian pacers capitalised well and went on to dominate the proceedings as they reduced Australia to 101/5 at lunch on Day 2. After Bumrah dismissed Khawaja, Mohammed Siraj joined the party by getting rid of opener Sam Konstas and Travis Head in the same over while Prasidh Krishna removed a set Steve Smith on 33 right before lunch.

Jasprit Bumrah breaks Bishan Singh Bedi’s record

Bumrah broke the legendary Bishan Singh Bedi’s 46-year-old record for India after getting Labuschagne’s wicket on Day 2 on Sunday. Bumrah surpassed Bedi to claim the record for most wickets by an Indian bowler in a Test series in Australia. Bumrah now has 32 wickets in 5 Test matches in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 as he went past the former leg spinner, who picked up 31 wickets in India’s Test series against Australia in 1977-78.
