New Delhi: Ruben Amorim confessed that both he and the senior team were responsible for Manchester United’s shortcomings as a football club which has now resulted in job cuts from the club. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the minority owner, is set to terminate 200 roles at Old Trafford in order to combat financial mishandlings and help their football structure.

On-field performances obviously affect a big team’s finances and a larger share of profits in sports first goes to the names at the top of the competition. United have been struggling in the league this season and their failure to qualify for the Champions League has only been made worse by their poor recruitment strategies.

To make matters worse, Amorim now will be without Amad Diallo for the entire season after the latter picked up an ankle injury in training. He has been in great form for United lately, scoring six times in his last 14 outings. The news comes after both Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer sustained injuries in training earlier this week and means Amorim now has limited resources in the midfield.

Having come with a big reputation for turning the course of teams right, Amorim has for most past struggled at United. The Red Devils on Sunday will meet Tottenham Hotspur who were placed just below them at the start of the matchday. Between themselves, they won five games out of the 22 in the top tier.

Ruben Amorim’s take on how Man United can improve

Ahead of the game, Amorim was asked if the morale of the staff was indeed affecting the team to which the 40-year-old coach replied that everyone in the first team couldn’t “ignore” the whole situation regarding termination of jobs. Amorim felt that their poor performances despite the spending and not being at the Champions League has affected the revenue the club has generated which in turn has resulted in people losing their jobs.

According to Amorim, the first step toward change would be a good performance against Tottenham and winning the game and hopefully that wouldn’t “push the ticket prices higher” and help some jobs be retained. After Ratcliffe had acquired a stake in the club, 250 employees had left last autumn and winter and now a further job reduction is being looked at as the way forward. There are reports that a significant job cutting would be in the scouting department as well.

The club’s recent financial issues have been troubling them to make a long-term sustainable plan in areas like recruitment. In the winter transfer period, Patrick Dorgu was their only purchase coming £25.2m. Amorim has already said that there needs to be an offloading of some players in order to bring players who fit into Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation.

Amorim’s system had worked miracles for him at Sporting including a Champions League win against Manchester City but coming to Old Trafford, the same formation hasn’t worked. This is due to not having the correct profile of players who can fit Amorim’s system and his current players are yet to fit in the system.

Amorim felt that a lot of focus was being given to the system and while at the moment it may be a weakness, but side was improving. United for their part have backed Amorim’s methods and tactical plans. It is obvious that it will take time for the side to turn things around while the Portuguese coach tries to build a team he can consistently deliver results with.

Ruben Amorim has said that the atmosphere at Manchester United has been gloomy due to job reductions at Old Trafford, amidst the team reeling with Amad Diallo’s season long absence.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
