CPI leadership condemns Pinarayi Vijayan’s statements against senior priests and perceived arrogance

Thiruvananthapuram: Days after the election outcome, all is not well within the LDF with CPI, the main ally of the left front openly revolting against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan over his unilateral actions and perceived arrogance that has called for widespread criticism.

It was the CPI executive meet in Thiruvananthapuram that has raised serious concerns over a range of issues from the electoral setbacks in Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram, the two seats where the CPI was contesting to the suspended welfare pensions and the increase in BJP vote share in many CPI and CPM strongholds.

“The CPI is concerned over the manner in which the Chief minister has spoken against the Jacobite Syrian church Niranam diocese’s former Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Coorilose. These kinds of statements will only help in worsening the relationship with the church who is already unhappy with the ruling government”, said a CPI leader in Wayanad who was not willing to reveal his identity.

The CPI Thrissur district unit has registered their protest over the inability of the leadership for not countering the growth of BJP in Thrissur where it had expected that V Sunil Kumar, the local strongman to win. The matter is already been taken up by the LDF state secretariat who will be analyzing the reasons for the loss in Thrissur.

“It is a failure of the top leaders of the LDF, mainly the CPI(M) who was not able to reach out to all sections of people and thus counter the narratives put out by Prime Minister Modi and other BJP leaders against the ruling state government”, the CPI leader added.

CPI leaders are the common view that the state LDF leadership had failed miserably in countering the allegations made by the BJP, especially on the corruption allegations against the local CPM leaders in the Karuvannur bank scam.

Recently, Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has referred to senior priest Mar Coorilose as ‘empty headed’ while he was speaking about a Face book post made by the senior priest over the LDFs poor performance in the recently concluded polls.
