Quito: At least six people were killed and nearly 30 are missing after a landslide hit Ecuador, Reuters reported citing preliminary information from the Ecuadorian authorities.
As per the data published by the Ecuadorean Secretariat for Risk Management on Sunday, June 16, the “large-magnitude” landslide occurred in the centre of Banos de Agua Santa.
Expressing solidarity with the victims, Ecuador’s Minister of Public Works Roberto Luque in a post on X said, “My solidarity with all the families that have been affected.”
This comes as a heavy rainstorm caused by low pressure swept across parts of Central and South America on Sunday alarming several countries with increased threat of landslides, rock falls and flooding.
